Alliance of Residential Care Administrators (ARCA)

Adult Residential Care Homes (ARCHs) in Hawaii are regulated and licensed by the State of Hawaii’s Department of Health. ARCHs provide care for those who require assistance with the activities of daily living but don’t necessarily need the services offered in the higher level of care facilities such as nursing homes.

ARCHs can be either Type I or Type II. Type I ARCHs are smaller facilities, with a maximum of five residents while Type II ARCHs are larger facilities who can accommodate 6 or more residents. Expanded ARCHs are homes that offer a higher level of care and services like those found in a nursing home.

The environment in an ARCH is a familiar family-like setting, whose caregivers provide aid with the activities of daily living such as bathing, eating and dressing and offer activities to help keep residents engaged and active. ARCHs are licensed and must meet the requirements set forth by the State of Hawaii’s Department of Health.
